Tensions escalated during the ADC elections in Tripura as a BJP candidate from the Baikhora–Kalsi constituency alleged that he and his supporters were attacked on polling day by supporters of Tipra Motha and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura.

The BJP candidate from the 26 Bir Chandra Nagar–Kalsi seat, Sanjib Reang, lodged a formal complaint at Baikhora Police Station late last night. Speaking to the media, he claimed that several of his party supporters were assaulted during the voting process.

Reang further alleged that the attacks were carried out by supporters linked to forces loyal to Minister Shukla Charan Noatia. He also raised suspicions of a possible nexus between supporters of Tipra Motha and the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura behind the incidents of violence targeting BJP workers in the area.

According to the BJP candidate, during the alleged attacks, slogans were raised warning that anyone supporting the BJP within ADC areas would not be allowed to stay. He described the situation as alarming and called for a thorough investigation into the incidents.

Despite these allegations, Reang pointed out that the BJP’s top leadership in Agartala has not publicly condemned the reported attacks. He expressed surprise over the silence, especially when several party workers were allegedly targeted at the grassroots level.

Adding to the controversy, BJP candidate from Takarjala, Nirmal Debbarma, reportedly demanded re-polling in all booths of his constituency citing irregularities. However, the party’s top leadership maintained that the ADC elections were conducted peacefully and did not officially acknowledge any demand for re-polling in Takarjala.

The situation has raised serious questions about the ground reality of the ADC polls, with conflicting narratives emerging between local candidates and the party’s higher leadership.
