Violence Intensifies Across ADC Polling Areas in Tripura as BJP–Tipra Motha Clashes Escalate.

A tense and rapidly deteriorating law-and-order situation gripped several parts of Tripura on Sunday afternoon, as clashes between supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Tipra Motha intensified across multiple ADC polling regions.

What began as scattered incidents of unrest earlier in the day escalated sharply after the afternoon, with reports of violent confrontations emerging from Takarjala, Mandai, Golaghati, and eventually Khumulwng. The scale and frequency of clashes indicated a deepening conflict between rival political supporters during the crucial ADC elections.

During the afternoon slot, serious disturbances were first reported from the 26 Bir Chandra Kolshi constituency, where tension began building up in the post-noon hours. The situation worsened with incidents of bomb explosions and widespread vandalism reported from Olay Chhara under Shantirbazar subdivision. Central forces were rushed to the area to contain the unrest.

While polling in North Tripura and Khowai districts continued relatively peacefully, major disruptions were reported from Kulai constituency. Allegations surfaced that Tipra Motha supporters prevented Bengali voters from casting their votes at several booths. Eyewitness accounts suggested that incidents of intimidation and violence took place in front of police personnel, raising serious concerns over enforcement neutrality.

By late afternoon, the epicentre of violence shifted to Khumulwng, where direct clashes between BJP and Tipra Motha supporters were reported. Tension escalated further after two bombs were allegedly hurled near Charan Pai SB School, triggering panic among voters. Several motorcycles were vandalized amid attempts by rival groups to assert control over polling stations.

The administration responded by deploying heavy security, including police and TSR personnel, across the affected regions. Additional SP Suman Majumdar led operations on the ground to bring the situation under control.

In a separate incident, BJP polling agents Uttam Debbarma and Ashok Kumar Chirang were allegedly assaulted by Tipra Motha supporters and later admitted to Bishramganj Hospital. The attack took place at booths 34 and 35 under the Golaghati constituency at Guraibari Pathaliaghati High School polling station in Amtali.

Reports also indicated that panic-stricken voters fled polling stations in several areas to save their lives as violence escalated. In Kulai–Champahowar constituency, clashes at booth number 42 further aggravated tensions following allegations of outsider voters casting ballots.

As the day progressed, the situation continued to worsen, with sporadic violence being reported from different pockets. Authorities remain on high alert, but the intensity of clashes since the afternoon has raised serious concerns about the overall conduct and safety of the ADC electoral process.
