Polling day in Tripura ADC areas witnessed tension and allegations of irregularities from opposition quarters, raising concerns over the conduct of the electoral process in several locations.

Left-backed CPI(M) candidate Radhacharan Debbarma alleged that polling agents of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) were forcibly driven out from seven polling booths. He further claimed that party polling agents were attacked in multiple places by miscreants allegedly linked to Tipra Motha.

According to Debbarma, although polling agents were later allowed to re-enter some booths, such incidents have raised serious concerns about the fairness of the election. He also alleged malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in several polling stations during the afternoon.

Expressing apprehension, he said there is uncertainty over whether polling will remain peaceful till the end. However, he added that if free and fair voting is ensured, CPI(M) is expected to perform well.

In a separate development, Animesh Debbarma, a minister and senior leader of Tipra Motha, cast the first vote of the day at a polling station in Ramchandraghat. Despite not being prominently visible during the campaign, he arrived early to exercise his democratic right.

After casting his vote, the minister appealed to voters to participate peacefully in the democratic process and urged all citizens to exercise their franchise responsibly.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as polling continues across the ADC areas, with efforts underway to maintain peace and order at all polling stations.
