Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Saturday called for institutionalising voluntary blood donation as a social practice, stating that it should be viewed as both a civic responsibility and a humanitarian act.
He was speaking after inaugurating a blood donation camp at the CRPF Group Centre in the Adarini tea garden area of Damdamia, organised jointly by the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and the Central Reserve Police Force.
“Voluntary blood donation is not merely a medical requirement but a reflection of compassion and human values,” the Governor said.
He said blood cannot be manufactured like other resources and must be sourced through donation, and suggested the creation of a centralised digital database of donors to ensure timely availability during emergencies.
Nallu also urged healthcare institutions and voluntary organisations to coordinate efforts to strengthen the blood donation network in the state.
He lauded the role of the CRPF and organisers in conducting the camp and released a magazine titled ‘Ujjayanta’ on the occasion.
Inspector General of CRPF Tripura Sector Sanjay Yadav, Rotary Club president Damodar Chatterjee, secretary Jhumur Banik Sengupta and Commandant Prabhas Kumar Sanowar were present at the event and addressed the gathering.
There was no immediate response from other officials.
