BJP worker assaulted at hospital, role of staff nurse alleged

A BJP worker sustained head injuries after he was allegedly assaulted inside a hospital in Sepahijala district on Saturday, party leaders said.

The injured, identified as Sharamani Debbarma, was attacked when he had gone to Dayaram Hospital to visit a relative admitted there, they said.

Local BJP leaders alleged that supporters of Tipra Motha Party were involved in the assault and claimed that a staff nurse at the hospital had informed them about his presence.

“A staff nurse tipped off party workers about his movement. She was equally responsible for the attack,” a BJP leader alleged.

Debbarma was later rescued by local BJP workers and shifted to a hospital in Bishramganj for primary treatment before being referred to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital for further care, sources said.

There was no immediate response from the hospital authorities or the Tipra Motha Party.
