Ahead of the crucial ADC elections in Tripura, authorities have announced an extensive security arrangement to ensure peaceful voting. Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, IPS on Friday outlined the deployment strategy, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against any unlawful activities on polling day.

According to the DGP, a total of 24 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed for the elections. Of these, four companies are already stationed in the state, while the remaining 20 are expected to arrive shortly. The central forces include 12 companies of the Border Security Force (BSF), 10 companies of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and 2 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

In addition to central forces, around 12,000 personnel from Tripura Police and the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) will be deployed across the region.

Notably, the ADC elections will be conducted across 1,257 polling stations in 28 constituencies on April 12 morning to evening. Based on security assessments, these have been classified into three categories:

311 polling stations marked as highly sensitive (Category A)

693 polling stations marked as sensitive (Category B)

253 polling stations marked as normal (Category C).

Authorities say this classification will help prioritize security deployment and monitoring.

DGP Anurag Dhankar today issued a stern warning, stating that no illegal activities will be tolerated under any circumstances during the elections. He urged voters to come out and cast their votes without fear, assuring that adequate measures have been put in place to maintain law and order.

Despite the security assurances, concerns remain due to recent violent clashes between supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party and Tipra Motha Party. Reports indicate multiple incidents of confrontation in the past few days, some occurring even in the presence of police.

On Friday, fresh violence was reported in Sepahijala district, where several individuals, including police personnel and supporters from both parties

were injured. Notably, Vijay Debbarma, IPS was among those hurt during the clashes.

There have also been allegations that in several cases, attacks took place targeting candidates, ministers, and senior political leaders, raising questions about the effectiveness of police intervention.

The perceived soft approach of law enforcement in handling aggressive political confrontations has sparked debate within political circles. Critics are questioning whether adequate steps have been taken to curb escalating tensions.

At the same time, sources suggest dissatisfaction among lower-ranking police personnel, who are reportedly frustrated with what they describe as restrained directives from senior leadership.

With tensions simmering and security forces deployed in large numbers, attention is now focused on how effectively authorities manage the situation on polling day. The success of these arrangements will be crucial in ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election process in Tripura.
