The hounding of Hindu minorities by the ‘Momins’ of Bangladesh is now taking new forms . Apart from the senseless murders, forcible encroachment of land , displacement, abduction of women and rape , the ‘Momins’ have now started desecrating the temples and other places of worship of minuscule minority Hindus in different parts of Bangladesh. The new prime minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahaman who got the vast majority of Hindu votes in the February 12 election this year has announced financial grants to several prominent Hindu temples in Dhaka and other important towns of Bangladeshi hellscape but is too scared to provide any meaningful security to the most peace-loving law-abiding section of its citizenry, fearing a backlash from the thuggish fundamentalists.
In the latest outrage designed to humiliate the Hindu community, two ‘Mominas’ (Muslim women) made an abortive bid to defile a Hindu temple in Bagura district in the guise of Hindu women. Sources from Bangladesh said that on April 8 the incident happened in Borboria village under Adamdighi sub-district of Bagura district in the evening. There is a Hindu temple in this village where the Hindu community members assemble for prayer every evening and it was in this temple two ‘Mominas’ disguised as Hindu women with vermilion tips on forehead and conch shell bracelets around both wrists . But their movement and conversational style made the assembled Hindu devotees suspicious and they confronted the two ‘Mominas’ who started indulging in prevarication but finally confessed they were actually Muslims and had come to see the worship and prayer.
In reply to queries it came out that one of them was Ms Sherful Akhtar Suptata (25), consort of Saiful Islam of nearby Nasirnagar subdistrict while the other was Mahan Begum (36), wife of Baharuddin Mia of Madhavpur subdistrict under Habiganj district. Both of them were encircled by the devotees and police was informed of what had happened. The police authority arrived on the spot and took both the ‘Mominas’ into custody while promising suitable legal action for trespass and attempt to hurt religious sentiments. Sources said that the temple committee and local Hindus have appealed to all to keep calm and not to make it an issue.
