The West Tripura district administration has imposed prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, to ensure maintenance of law and order during the TTAADC elections.

District Magistrate Vishal Kumar issued the order citing apprehensions of disturbances near polling stations due to large gatherings and vehicular movement.

As per the directive, assembly of five or more persons within 200 metres of polling stations has been prohibited without prior permission. The restrictions will remain in force from 4 pm on April 10 till 6 am on April 13.

The order also places strict limits on vehicular movement. Convoys of more than three vehicles have been banned, pillion riding on two-wheelers is not allowed on polling day, and movement of two-wheelers in groups has been restricted.

Additionally, carrying of items such as bamboo sticks, wooden rods, iron pipes or similar objects that could be used as weapons has been prohibited in areas under restriction. Entry with mobile phones inside polling stations has also been barred unless authorised.

Security forces, including police and paramilitary personnel, have been directed to enforce the restrictions through mobile patrolling, check posts and surveillance at key entry and exit points.

The administration has warned that any violation of the order will invite prosecution under relevant provisions of law.
