The 44th death anniversary of slain Congress MLA and leader of Youth Congress Parimal Saha today was commemorated today by the Congress unit in Bishalgarh. The Congress office in Bishalgarh had been forcibly closed down after the BJP had come to power in 2018 as most of the Congress workers and supporters had joined BJP. In several cases the storm troopers of BJP also hurled bombs at the office and vandalised it completely. This led to practical desertion of the Congress office there.
But this morning local Congress leader and advocate Nigamananda Goswami , district Congress general secretary Arafat Iqbal and Youth Congress leader Ershad Mia and Shanti Bhattacharjee offered floral tributes to a portrait of Parimal Saha reopened the Congress office. Having reopened the party office the leaders headed a procession of party workers and supporters to the spot of cremation of Parimal Saha and offered their tributes to him. Speaking to media persons Nigamananda Goswami said that slain Parimal Saha used to say that ‘humility and respect for members of the public is the best quality of a leader ‘ and they will keep on working for Congress , keeping this mind.
The observance of the death anniversary of Parimal Saha today revived memories of the cruel manner in which he had been murdered by a gang of CPI (M) workers and supporters on April 7 1983 within three month of his election to the state assembly from Charilam Constituency which was then a ‘general’ constituency by a good margin. “The ruling party , entire administration and police had conspired jointly to have an elected MLA murdered brutally in broad daylight on that day and it will remain etched in our minds; it is a matter of satisfaction that the murderers were finally punished by the high court in 2016 , long 34 years after the murder ; along with Parimal Saha his cousin Jiten Saha had also been murdered while trying to save Parimal Saha ; this incident is a blot on the political history of during CPI (M)’s long misrule” said Nigamananda Goswami.
