Tensions are rapidly escalating across Tripura’s ADC areas ahead of the upcoming elections, with multiple incidents of political confrontation and alleged violence being reported from different constituencies. The latest incident occurred on Monday night at Nepal Tila under the Damcherra–Kachucherra constituency, where BJP candidate Bipin Debbarma allegedly faced obstruction and aggressive protests from supporters of Tipra Motha during his campaign last night.

According to reports, Tipra Motha supporters raised 'Go Back' slogans and shouted provocative lines targeting the BJP candidate in the presence of police personnel. The situation quickly turned tense, creating a charged atmosphere in the area. BJP workers and supporters have alleged that despite repeated attempts to disrupt the campaign and intimidate the candidate, the police remained passive and did not take any immediate action, leading to growing resentment among party supporters.

In a separate but equally serious incident, the Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura police station, Tapas Das, reportedly came under attack while attempting to arrest an accused in Rampada Para under Nalchar Assembly Constituency. It has been alleged that supporters of Tipra Motha assaulted the police team, forcing them to retreat without completing the arrest. The OC was reportedly confined for a considerable period by miscreants, and his official vehicle was vandalized during the incident, raising serious concerns about the law and order situation.

Similar incidents of unrest have also been reported from various parts of the state. In the Lambu area of Kamalpur, tensions flared up during a public meeting of BJP ADC candidate Ananta Debbarma when Tipra Motha supporters allegedly blocked roads a few days back. When police attempted to clear the blockade, clashes reportedly broke out. Several BJP leaders, including BJP candidates Maji Debbarma, David Debbarma, Minister Bikash Debbarma, and Kishore Barman, are also said to have faced repeated attacks in different locations. Reports of stone-pelting and glass bottle throwing have emerged, with allegations that even in the presence of police and TSR personnel, no immediate arrests were made.

Earlier, political tension was also reported from Shyamali Bazar in Dhananjaynagar under the Purba Mohuripur–Bhuratali constituency, where clashes involving Tipra Motha supporters created panic among local residents. Repeated allegations have surfaced that BJP workers and leaders are being targeted during door-to-door campaigns, with sudden attacks leading to violent confrontations. In every incidents locals have expressed concern over their safety and have called for immediate administrative intervention to prevent further escalation.

The role of the police has come under sharp criticism, with BJP supporters questioning why strict action has not been taken despite multiple incidents. Many have alleged that the lack of prompt response has emboldened miscreants and contributed to the deteriorating situation on the ground.

Reacting to the developments, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee accused Tipra Motha leaders of failing to fulfill their promises to indigenous communities and alleged misuse of public funds. Chief Minister Manik Saha claimed that former CPM cadres have now joined Tipra Motha and are responsible for spreading unrest and engaging in violence and vandalism in ADC areas.

On the other hand, Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma cautioned against internal conflict among indigenous communities, stating that such divisions could prove harmful for society as a whole.

Political observers believe that as elections draw closer, such repeated incidents of confrontation could further complicate the situation in Tripura’s ADC regions. The growing demand for impartial policing and stronger administrative measures reflects rising public concern over safety and the overall law and order situation.
