BJP Candidate Maji Debbarma Injured in Tipra Motha’s Attack During Campaign, Police Vehicle Vandalised

Tension gripped Tripura’s political landscape after BJP-nominated candidate Maji Debbarma was allegedly attacked and seriously injured during a campaign in the Nabashantiganj area under the Pekuajarjala–Janmejoynagar ADC constituency on Sunday afternoon.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred while Debbarma was conducting door-to-door campaigning. A group of alleged supporters linked to Tipra Motha reportedly launched a sudden and violent assault on the BJP candidate and his accompanying party workers.

Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers began indiscriminate assault, targeting Debbarma and BJP workers. The situation quickly escalated into chaos, with multiple individuals sustaining injuries. Debbarma was reportedly critically targeted, with allegations suggesting an attempt on his life.

The violence did not stop there. Several vehicles, including a police vehicle from Takarjala Police Station, were vandalised during the incident. Multiple motorcycles were also damaged, and a BJP party office in the area was reportedly ransacked.

Police personnel intervened to control the situation and rescue the injured. During the clash, at least one police officer was also injured. Debbarma and other injured individuals were later shifted to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment.

Authorities have yet to issue a detailed official statement regarding the number of arrests or the exact sequence of events.
