In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again reiterated its earlier promise to rename the council as the Tripura Autonomous Territorial Council (TATC) if voted to power. The commitment, which was first made during the 2021 ADC elections, has been brought back into focus as part of a comprehensive 29-point electoral vision unveiled on Tuesday.

The blueprint was released in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee, former MP Rebati Tripura and minister Bikash Debbarma, indicating the party’s renewed focus on strengthening its position in the ADC areas. The announcement comes at a crucial time when political activities are intensifying in the tribal belt ahead of the polls.

According to the vision document, the BJP has laid emphasis on a wide range of developmental and welfare initiatives aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of tribal communities. The party has highlighted its commitment to recognising Kokborok and other tribal languages, preserving customary laws and traditions, and ensuring democratic functioning of village committees. Alongside identity-related issues, the roadmap also focuses heavily on infrastructure development, including electrification of all tribal households, provision of housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and large-scale implementation of solar lighting projects in ADC areas.

The proposed plan also includes major steps in the fields of education and healthcare, such as establishing a medical college in Dhalai and setting up a nursing and paramedical institute in Khumulwng. Special emphasis has been placed on skill development, with assurances of training programs for tribal youth to enable them to access employment opportunities at national and international levels.

Economic empowerment forms a key pillar of the BJP’s strategy, with promises to strengthen self-help groups of tribal women and increase the number of Lakhpati Didis. The party has also pledged to provide financial and technical support to Jhumia families, expand the Van Dhan Yojana to boost forest-based livelihoods, and assist young entrepreneurs through startup initiatives. In addition, plans have been outlined for the development of rural markets, promotion of bamboo-based industries, and creation of community infrastructure across ADC areas.

Cultural and social initiatives have also found place in the vision document, including the establishment of handloom and handicraft training centres, football and martial arts academies, and the documentation and scientific development of traditional tribal medicinal practices. The BJP has further reiterated its commitment to implementing a drug-free Tripura vision in ADC areas through coordinated administrative efforts.
