A tragic incident at Dumboor Lake, one of Tripura’s most popular tourist destinations, has sparked widespread concern over tourist safety after a young visitor from outside the state drowned while bathing.

According to reports, the victim has been identified as Abhinav Singh (20), a resident of Uttar Pradesh and a second-year engineering student. He had come to Tripura with a group of friends and was staying at a resort near the Narikel Kunja (Coconut Island) area of Dumboor Lake.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Abhinav and his friends went to bathe near a helipad area adjacent to the lake. During the course of bathing, Abhinav reportedly ventured into deeper waters and drowned. His friends and local people immediately attempted to rescue him, but due to the depth of the water, they were unsuccessful.

Upon receiving the information, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. After nearly two hours of effort, the rescue team recovered the body at around 5:20 PM. The body was later sent to Gomati District Hospital for further procedures.

This incident has once again highlighted safety concerns at Dumboor Lake, particularly in areas frequented by tourists. Locals and various organizations have raised demands for better monitoring systems, including deployment of lifeguards, installation of warning signs, and stricter regulation of tourist activities in vulnerable zones.
