The Director General of Police Anurag Dharkhar today paid a visit to the Khowai , headquarter of the namesake district to take stock of the law and order situation in the run-up to ADC election on April 12 and the by-election to the Dharma Nagar assembly constituency. He held a meeting with the SP (Khowai) Ramesh Chandra Yadav and the SP (Dhalai) Hrishikesh Desai Jaysing who had come to the Khowai SP office. In the meeting the DGP took stock of the law and order situation in the two districts and issued directives to the officers in attendance on how best to tackle the law and order situation under the exigencies of circumstances. He told media persons that adequate TSR, poice and CRPF jawans will be deployed to maintain law and order in the run-up to the election as well as on the election day. The DGP will visit all important SP offices to hold meetings with junior officials and issue his instructions.

Meanwhile, the campaign for the upcoming by-election to the Dharma Nagar assembly constituency, vacated by the death last December of the former speaker Bishwabandhu Sen who had won the seat consecutively from 2008 to 2023. The BJP candidate for the by-election Jawhar Chakraborty, husband of former state womens commission chief Barnali Goswami, today intensified his door-to-door campaing to personally contact and approach voters . Jawhar Chakraborty today covered booth nos 49 and 50 today in the course of his door-to-door campaign. He was accompanied in his campaign by all senior leader of BJP in Dharma Nagar as well as the minister for animal resource development Sudhangshu Das who actually belongs to Fatikroy in Unakoti district. Sudhangshu has been camping in Dharma Nagar ever since the campaign for the by-poll began and will stay put here to bolster the campaign . Speaking to media persons Sudhangshu exuded confidence that the BJP candidate will win the Dharma Nagar seat easily .

But the CPI (M) candidate and tested leader Amitava Datta and the Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharjee have also been campaigning hard for winning the by-poll . The topmost leaders of CPI (M) and Congress have been accompanying respective party candidates in their campaign . The accent by all the candidates is on personal contact and door-to-door campaign . However, sources from Dharma Nagar said that had the CPI (M) and Congress had struck a deal and had the seat been left for Congress, Chayan Bhattacharjee , the Congress candidate would have won the by-election hands down because of the lack of popularity of BJP because of controversial activities of former speaker Bishwabandhu Sen.
