Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma and his party Tipra Motha, alleging that the party has resorted to violence after losing public support ahead of the upcoming ADC elections.
Addressing an election rally at Bir Chandra Nagar–Kalshi constituency in South Tripura district, the Chief Minister claimed that Tipra Motha leaders are 'frustrated' due to declining public backing and have now turned to politics of violence.
He alleged that a violent incident took place earlier in the day at Kamalpur, attributing the attack to supporters of Tipra Motha.
Saha further accused Pradyot Debbarma of misleading people by making contradictory statements. “For a long time, he has been saying one thing publicly and another behind the scenes, creating confusion among the people,” the Chief Minister said. He also pointed out that despite being in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Tipra Motha has often behaved like an opposition force.
Taking a strong stance, the Chief Minister said that what he described as blackmail politics by Tipra Motha would no longer be tolerated. He alleged that certain elements associated with the party are now engaging in violence and hooliganism after being diverted from their goals.
He warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in such activities.
The Chief Minister also criticized the current administration of the Autonomous District Council (ADC), alleging that despite receiving substantial financial allocations, there has been little visible development in the region.
In a politically significant statement, Saha said that if his party forms the government in the ADC, a detailed audit of all activities and expenditures would be conducted.
Concluding his speech, he urged voters to support the BJP in the upcoming ADC elections to establish a triple engine government, emphasizing that such a setup would ensure “real development in the tribal areas.
The remarks have further intensified the political atmosphere in Tripura, with both ruling and opposition parties escalating their rhetoric ahead of the crucial ADC polls.
