A fresh political controversy has erupted in Tripura after Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma reiterated his demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’ during a mega public gathering held at Silachari Motor Stand as part of the campaign for the upcoming ADC elections.

Addressing a large crowd, Debbarma reportedly stated that regions such as Cumilla, Chittagong, Chakla Roshanabad, and Brahmanbaria should be part of the envisioned Greater Tipraland. He suggested that with the support of 'Thansa,' ( Unity) such a vision could become possible.

The remarks have drawn sharp reactions across political and public circles. Critics pointed out that such territories became part of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) during the partition of India in 1947, raising questions about the practicality and historical context of the demand.

Many observers and sections of the public have described the statement as unrealistic and politically motivated, especially noting that the demand had not been prominently raised in the past several years. Some have termed it a 'daydream' or 'mirage,' questioning its relevance in the current electoral context.

Non political and many neutral voices in social media have also accused Debbarma and his party of making exaggerated promises to influence voters in tribal areas during the ADC elections. Allegations were raised that such rhetoric could mislead simple and first-time political participants in the hills.

At the same time, some supporters of the idea expressed emotional backing for the concept of Greater Tipraland, even while acknowledging that its realization would be extremely complex under present geopolitical realities.

The development has intensified political debate in Tripura, with the ADC election campaign witnessing increasingly sharp exchanges between rival parties.
