Manoj Kanti Deb, BJP MLA and former minister, has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Kamalpur subdivision, stating that free and peaceful elections have become impossible amid rising political violence.
He alleged that a section of supporters of the Tipra Motha Party has unleashed a wave of attacks and terror across multiple ADC areas. “The way violence and intimidation have started, it is no longer possible to ensure free and fair elections,” he warned.
The MLA specifically referred to the incidents in Lambu and Srirampur, where BJP campaign activities were allegedly targeted. According to him, armed groups obstructed their campaign in Lambu, forcing them to withdraw. Later, in Srirampur, over 200 alleged Tipra Motha supporters attacked BJP leaders and workers using sharp weapons, rods, sticks, and firearms, leaving several injured, including security personnel.
Tensions further escalated as vehicles of BJP leaders were vandalized along National Highway 208, while multiple party workers, police, and TSR personnel sustained injuries in separate clashes.
Citing a series of recent attacks across Tripura, including assaults on Minister Bikash Debbarma, incidents involving David Debbarma in Ramchandraghat, and obstruction of Minister Kishore Barman’s meeting in Thalibari, Manoj Kanti Deb said the situation reflects a broader pattern of politically motivated violence.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Ratan Chakraborty referred to attacks on BJP workers houses in Dhuppchara, under Khayerpur Assembly Constituency which have created fear among supporters ahead of the ADC elections.
Strongly condemning these incidents, he stated that such violence is being carried out by a frustrated section fearing electoral defeat, adding, “People will vote for BJP and for peace.”
Meanwhile, Manoj Kanti Deb has demanded immediate and strict action against those responsible. He urged authorities to act without delay against the alleged Tipra Motha culprits, emphasizing that restoring law and order is essential to protect the democratic process.
