Daring theft in jewellery shop in Churaibari, gold, silver and gem stones worth more than Rs 1 crore stolen

Taking advantage of lax police surveillance and gang of organised thieves cut apart the tin shed above a jewellery shop and made off with manufactured gold and silver ornaments , gem stones and cash worth more than Rs 1 crore last night. The theft occurred in the ‘Samrat Jewellery’ owned by Sumit De and located in Ward No-3 under Chraibari Gram Panchayat near railway trijunction under Churaibari police station in Dharma Nagar subdivision last night.

Giving details of the daring theft sources from Churaibari said that the owner of ‘Samrat Jewellery’ Sumit De and his manager Uttam Kumar Dhar had closed the jewellery around 9-00 last night and gone back home , keeping everything in order. But today around 9-00 in the, morning , manager Uttam Dhar opened the jewellery and found everything inside including glass boxes and lockers in a state of total disarray. Seeing sunlight within the jewellery he looked up and saw that the tin shed above had been cut apart and realised what had actually happened.

A horrified Uttam Dhar called up his owner Sumit De as well as police from Churaibari station . The owner rushed up to his jewellery and nearly fainted after seeing what all had been stolen. A police team came and noted down the details to register a formal FIR and went back after recording all information . The jewellery owner Sumit De said that most of the materials stolen except the cash amount of Rs 50 thousand belonged to customers and he was now at a loss to decided how to convince the customers who had handed over gold and silver for ornament making . The local people also accused the police of lax surveillance and patrolling at night and said that earlier also a number of thefts had occurred in a similar fashion but the police could resolve no case.
