Vehicular movement along National Highway-108B was severely disrupted on Monday evening after rainfall rendered large stretches of the under-construction road muddy and waterlogged, affecting connectivity between Khowai, Kalyanpur and Agartala.

Traffic came to a halt around 6 pm, particularly in the stretches between Belfang, Subal Singh Para and Mohanbari, where slush and accumulated water made the road nearly impassable.

Local inputs indicated that minor landslides from adjoining elevated areas further blocked portions of the highway, worsening the situation.

While small vehicles and two-wheelers were stranded, heavy vehicles managed to move with considerable difficulty. Several drivers were forced to stop intermittently to remove mud stuck to tyres.

Public transport services were also hit, with bus operations between Khowai and Agartala suspended during the evening. Passenger carriers from Radhanagar bus stand could not proceed beyond certain points due to poor road conditions.

Authorities diverted some vehicles via alternative routes through Jirania and Teliamura, though congestion and slow movement persisted.

Commuters and transport workers faced significant inconvenience. Locals also expressed concern over recurring disruptions during the rainy season, raising questions over the pace and quality of ongoing construction work.
