Court convicts husband, mother-in-law for housewife's death

The court of Additional district judge West Tripura on Thursday convicted a husband and his mother for the death of a housewife. The deceased identified as Sabita Das was killed by her husband and her mother in law was involved in the conspiracy.

According to the Public Prosecutor Arabinda Deb, the incident took place under the jurisdiction of West Agartala Women Police Station.

The mortal remains of Sabita Das were found in suspicious circumstances. The court found her husband, Mithu Das, guilty under Sections 302 and 498A of the IPC while his mother was convicted under Section 498 and 34 of the Indian Penal

The court awarded life imprisonment to Mithu Das and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000. The court also sent the deceased person's mother-in-law, Uma Das, to three years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000.

The prosecution examined 31 witnesses during the trial. Among them, the couple’s minor son Umashankar Das also testified against him.

The minor boy is now staying at a child protection home.
