Infighting in Tipra Motha Intensifies Ahead of ADC Polls, Rebel Candidates Emerge, Senior Leader Defects to IPFT

In a major political development ahead of the ADC elections in Tripura, internal factionalism within has surfaced publicly, raising concerns over the party’s so-called 'thansa' (unity) and electoral prospects.
The unrest became evident in the Amtali–Golaghati region, where two disgruntled leaders and have filed their nominations as independent candidates. Sources indicate that both leaders took this step after being denied party tickets, reflecting growing dissatisfaction within the party’s grassroots leadership.
Their decision has injected fresh tension into the local political landscape. Political observers believe that such internal discord could weaken Tipra Motha’s organizational strength in the upcoming ADC elections. Meanwhile, opposition parties have begun highlighting the issue, portraying it as a sign of instability within the party.
The situation has been further aggravated by a significant defection from the party, a prominent leader from Karbook block and known to be a close associate of formally joined the (IPFT) on Wednesday.
He was welcomed into the party by IPFT General Secretary , who described the move as a significant boost to the party’s strength.
The defection has triggered fresh discussions in political circles, especially as several influential leaders have reportedly left Tipra Motha in recent days. Analysts view this trend as indicative of underlying dissatisfaction and possible fragmentation within the party.
While IPFT leaders are projecting the development as a strategic gain, the silence from Tipra Motha leadership has added to speculation about internal unrest.
