Congress Legislature Party leader and senior MLA Birajit Sinha on Wednesday accused Tripura Minister Tinku Roy of filing false election affidavits and alleged corruption involving a former civil servant.

Addressing a press conference at the Agartala Press Club, Sinha claimed that Roy had failed to disclose criminal antecedents in affidavits filed during the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections, in which he contested from Kadamtala-Kurti and Chandipur constituencies respectively.

“It is mandatory for candidates to disclose criminal cases in their affidavits, but this requirement was allegedly not complied with,” Sinha said, adding that similar violations had led to disqualification of an MLA in Manipur.

He further stated that a police complaint had been lodged against the Minister. “Senior police officials have been informed, but the case has not yet been registered. We will pursue all legal options,” he said.

Sinha also levelled allegations of financial irregularities against a former sub-divisional magistrate of Kailashahar, Pradip Sarkar, claiming misappropriation of funds amounting to around Rs 20 crore during his tenure between 2022 and 2025.

Linking the official to the Minister, Sinha alleged that the irregularities were carried out at Roy’s behest and involved funds from the SDM office and local municipal bodies. He demanded a probe into the matter.

According to Sinha, complaints regarding the alleged irregularities have been submitted to the offices of the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and other senior officials.
