Congress Legislature Party leader and senior MLA Birajit Sinha has raised concerns over alleged unauthorised construction on land belonging to the Airports Authority of India in Kailashahar and sought intervention from the Airport Director of Agartala Airport.

In a communication to the airport authorities, Sinha alleged that portions of the land earmarked for the aviation body had been encroached upon, triggering resentment among locals. He claimed that temporary structures, including a bamboo installation, had been erected on the site.

The MLA further alleged that land filling, road construction and other activities were being carried out without approval from competent authorities.

Sinha also named an individual, identified as Sanjib Debroy, a government public prosecutor, alleging involvement in land filling and construction on the site. There was, however, no official confirmation from authorities regarding the legality of the activities.

He said the developments had caused concern among locals in Kailashahar and could become sensitive if not addressed promptly.

The matter has been brought to the notice of local police, Sinha said, adding that since the land falls under the jurisdiction of the Airports Authority of India, appropriate action should be initiated by the concerned authority.

He also flagged reports of certain social activities being conducted on the land, raising further questions over its use. Officials are yet to issue a response.
