In a major development ahead of the upcoming elections, tensions have begun to escalate immediately after the announcement of candidate lists, with reports of violence emerging from parts of the state.

According to initial reports, supporters of the Tipra Motha Party were allegedly attacked while returning after welcoming their party’s candidate. The incident took place in the Asharam Bari Hala Hali constituency, where candidate Champa Hawar had arrived in the Bharat Sardar area as part of campaign activities.

It has been alleged that around four to five party workers and supporters, who had gone to receive the candidate, were targeted on their way back home. The attackers reportedly used bricks and other objects, leading to injuries among the supporters.

Party candidate Prasmit Debbarma strongly condemned the incident and rushed to the Khowai district hospital to meet the injured supporters. He stated that the attack was unprovoked and raised serious concerns about law and order during the election period.

Debbarma further said that the identity of the attackers is yet to be confirmed. He added that once the details of the incident are clearly established, a formal complaint will be lodged at the local police station.

The incident has heightened political tensions in the region, with parties gearing up for a closely contested election. Police Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
