Tipra Motha Faces Internal Turmoil Over ADC Candidate List, Exclusion of Key Leaders Sparks Rebellion Threats

The announcement of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) candidates for the upcoming ADC elections has triggered significant internal unrest, with allegations of favoritism, exclusion of senior leaders, and growing dissatisfaction among grassroots supporters.

According to party sources, 28 candidates have been finalized as of this evening, but the list has raised eyebrows as several former Executive Members (EMs) and sitting MDCs have been denied tickets. In contrast, the party has introduced a number of new and relatively unknown faces, leading to discontent within the organizational structure.

A major point of concern is the complete absence of any candidate from the Bengali candidates in unreserved seats and Mog community in the current list. Political observers believe this could weaken the much-emphasized “Tangsa” (unity) among indigenous communities, which has been a core ideological pillar of TMP.

The situation has further escalated with serious dissent emerging from within the party ranks. Reports suggest that former EM Rajesh Tripura has not been nominated from the 24-Raima Valley constituency, which has angered his supporters.

In a strong warning, party insiders revealed that around 22,000 voters may leave TMP if Rajesh Tripura is not reconsidered as the candidate. This development signals a potential electoral setback for the party if the issue is not resolved promptly.

Adding to the tension, TMP supporters have reportedly gathered in large numbers outside the residence of party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, each lobbying for their preferred candidates. The scene reflects deepening factionalism and pressure on the party leadership.

Speaking to the media, YTF block-level secretary Nabin Kumar Tripura stated that nearly 22,000 voters are ready to shift allegiance to other political parties if their demands are ignored. His statement has further intensified concerns over a possible erosion of TMP’s support base ahead of the ADC polls. Tipra Motha Party has not yet announced candidates list for 28 seats officially.
