In a belatedly considered view the Congress in Tripura has slammed the central budget placed by the union finance minsier Nirmala Sitharaman on January 31 as ‘anti-people and anti-development’. Interacting with media persons in the Congress Bhawan today the Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty said that the budget placed by Centre in Loksabha holds nothing for Tripura and northeast and will retard the progress of the state. “It is quite obvious that despite some pittance announced for middle class in the form of income tax rebate , the budget has deprived all other sections of society including the poorest of the poor ; there is no major growth for pro-poor programmes like the MGNREGA outlay and for northeastern affairs” said Prabir. He described the budget as ‘pro-corporate’ and devoid of any positive allocation for reducing unemployment and poverty.
“We view the budget as anti-people and we will launch a statewide agitation against this very soon ; besides there are many steps taken by the BJP-led Centre that need to be protested and stopped in the track and we will do this” said Prabir. He also castigated the activities of the BJP led state government and the role of the ruling party that is encouraging lawlessness in the state .
Prabir said that the TPCC and its leaders, specially the president Asish Kumar Saha have been organisign programmes in all district and subdivisional towns of the state. There was a successful and highly attended programme in Sonamura involving the scheduled caste community and within next three days there will be programmes of scheduled castes and tribes in other areas of the state including one in Dharma Nagar on February 6. He said that Congress is now concentrating on holding programmes and organizing people in rural and hilly areas of the state as well as in subdivisional and district towns and this will continue as part of the Congress drive for rejuvenation of the organizational structure.
