In a major anti-drug operation in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, traffic police successfully intercepted a vehicle carrying a large quantity of Yaba tablets in Charilam on Monday, following a high-speed chase based on specific intelligence inputs.

According to sources, the suspected vehicle had earlier passed through the Bishalgarh police station area without being stopped. Allegations have surfaced that despite the vehicle moving through a sensitive zone, the local police neither intercepted it nor made any visible attempt to do so.

Acting on a tip-off, traffic police personnel identified the vehicle as suspicious and initiated a pursuit. The vehicle was eventually stopped in the Charilam area after a chase. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of Yaba tablets, sending shockwaves across the locality and triggering widespread public concern.

Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and a detailed investigation is underway. Strict legal action is expected against those involved in the drug trafficking network.

However, the incident has also brought serious allegations to the forefront. Local sources claim that a section of police personnel in Bishalgarh may be indirectly aiding drug trafficking through alleged covert understanding with traffickers. It has been alleged that drug-laden vehicles frequently pass through the area without interception.

Further concerns have been raised regarding the handling of such cases, with accusations that weak investigation processes often allow accused individuals to secure easy bail from courts. Some claim that a significant percentage of drug traffickers escape punishment due to inadequate prosecution.

The latest seizure has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger enforcement, accountability, and coordinated action among law enforcement agencies to curb the growing menace of drug trafficking in the state.
