Tripura’s Sonamura witnessed a disappointing turnout at a much-publicized Jari-Sari cultural programme organized for minority communities, with locals terming the event a “flop” due to multiple factors including BJP’s internal conflicts and poor timing.
According to local residents, group clashes and factionalism among members of the Nagar Panchayat played a significant role in the failure of the event. The programme was scheduled to begin around 11 AM, but even by 2 PM, there was hardly any presence of guests or audience at the venue.
Adding to the situation, the Chairman of the Nagar Panchayat, who was supposed to inaugurate the event, did not attend, reportedly due to illness. His absence further dampened the spirit of the programme.
An official associated with the event stated that the previous day’s Eid celebrations and the declaration of school results in the area on the same day might have contributed to the low attendance. “There was no shortcoming in the arrangements. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, people did not turn up,” the official said.
Despite elaborate preparations, the event had to be concluded in a subdued manner with almost no audience. The incident has sparked discussions among local residents, raising questions about coordination, planning, and internal unity within the organizing bodies.
The unexpected outcome has created a sense of concern and curiosity in the area, especially considering the scale of arrangements made for the programme.
