A fresh wave of fear has gripped Bishalgarh following allegations of repeated gunfire targeting a contractor’s residence, even as the main accused, Ranbir Debnath, continues to evade arrest.
According to reports, a contractor’s family approached the police station on Monday, alleging that their house was fired upon twice. The family claimed that they were being threatened and extorted, intensifying concerns over law and order in the area.
This incident comes close on the heels of another firing case on the night of March 20, where the accused and his associates allegedly opened fire outside another contractor’s house, reportedly demanding Rs.12 lakh.
Three days after the firing at the residence of BJP leader and contractor Anup Saha in Netajinagar, Bishalgarh, police have yet to arrest the culprits, leading to mounting pressure on law enforcement agencies.
Late Sunday night, Bishalgarh police conducted extensive raids across multiple hotels in Battala, Agartala. At least three hotels were searched in a coordinated operation. However, despite prolonged efforts, no suspects were apprehended, and the police returned empty-handed.
Search operations are ongoing, with authorities continuing raids at various locations to trace the accused.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has taken a firm stance on the matter. Addressing the State Assembly, he declared that such mafia elements would not be spared under any circumstances.
His remarks underline the government’s intent to crack down on criminal activities, though the continued absconding of the accused has raised questions about enforcement effectiveness.
The incident has also triggered sharp political reactions. Minister Ratan Lal Nath called for bulldozer action against what he termed illegal offices of the CPI(M).
In response, opposition leaders countered by circulating photographs allegedly linking MLA Sushanta Deb with the accused in the Bishalgarh firing case, further escalating political tensions.
With repeated firing incidents, extortion allegations, and no arrests so far, Bishalgarh continues to remain on edge. Residents and business communities have expressed growing concern over safety, while pressure mounts on the police to deliver swift action.
Authorities have assured that the investigation is ongoing and that all efforts are being made to apprehend those responsible.
