In a significant development, police in Agartala and southern Tripura have arrested three individuals for allegedly posting objectionable and derogatory content against the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on social media, reportedly using artificial intelligence tools.
According to police sources, the latest arrest took place early this morning around 5:00 AM, when personnel from Sabroom Police Station detained a 32 year old youth identified as Subi Ray Tripura from the Kalachhara area under Sabroom subdivision. He was brought to the police station for initial questioning and legal procedures.
Following due process, Subi Ray Tripura was later handed over to West Agartala Police Station for further investigation, as the case is being centrally handled.
Police officials confirmed that two other individuals from Agartala were also detained in connection with the same case. They have been identified as Mongol Koloi from Nandan Nagar and Dipak Kumar Pal from the Airport area.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused had allegedly posted offensive and objectionable content targeting the Chief Minister on Facebook, with indications that artificial intelligence tools may have been used to create or manipulate the content.
Authorities have stated that strict legal action is being taken in accordance with relevant cyber laws and sections related to defamation and misuse of digital platforms. The police are also examining whether there are more individuals involved in the circulation or creation of such content.
This incident highlights growing concerns over the misuse of AI technology and social media platforms for spreading objectionable or misleading material, prompting law enforcement agencies to step up surveillance and enforcement in the digital space.
Further investigation is underway.
