With the upcoming TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) elections drawing near, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to finalize its list of candidates in an urgent high-level meeting scheduled for tomorrow, even as it has indicated that there will be no electoral alliance with the Tipra Motha Party (TMP).
According to party sources, the meeting will be held at Bagawat Singh Hostel in the presence of central observer and BJP’s Tripura in-charge and national general secretary Vinod Sonkar, who has already arrived in the state. The meeting is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Tripura BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya, and other senior leaders to finalize both the poll strategy and the candidates list for the crucial ADC elections.
Several prominent names are currently under consideration for candidature. Alongside candidate selection, the party leadership is also likely to deliberate on constituency level planning, campaign strategy, and organizational coordination to strengthen its position in the tribal council polls.
Meanwhile, in a significant political development, signals from the Tipra Motha Party suggest a different direction. Senior TMP leader and MLA Ranjit Debbarma recently indicated that the party is open to an electoral understanding with the BJP. He further revealed that TMP supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma is currently in New Delhi, where he is holding discussions with senior BJP leaders to explore the possibility of a seat-sharing arrangement.
The contrasting positions of the two parties have added a new dimension to the political landscape ahead of the elections. In the 2021 TTAADC polls, TMP emerged as the dominant force by securing 18 seats, while the BJP-led alliance managed to win 9 seats, making any potential alignment a matter of significant political consequence.
The next TTAADC elections are scheduled to be held on April 12, with counting slated for April 17. As political activities intensify, the decisions taken in the BJP’s upcoming high-level meeting are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the electoral battle and the future governance of the tribal council in Tripura.
