Tension flared outside the Jirania Sub-Divisional Office in Tripura as allegations of obstruction during the nomination filing process triggered sharp political reactions ahead of the upcoming ADC elections.According to reports, Radha Charan Debbarma, the CPI(M)-backed candidate of the Left Front from the 15-Jirania constituency, faced resistance while attempting to submit his nomination papers. It is alleged that supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tried to prevent him from filing his nomination, leading to a heated situation at the spot.Eyewitnesses described a tense atmosphere in front of the office premises, with party supporters gathering in significant numbers, raising slogans and engaging in verbal confrontations.Reacting strongly to the incident, Radha Charan Debbarma expressed outrage and questioned the state of democracy. He stated, “What kind of democracy is this? A group of uncivilized people! A group of barbarians!”He further alleged that the obstruction was a deliberate and planned attempt to disrupt the democratic process and prevent opposition candidates from participating freely in the elections.The incident has once again brought the political climate in Tripura into focus, with opposition parties accusing the ruling establishment of undermining democratic norms, while the BJP has yet to issue an official response on the allegations.Security arrangements in the area are expected to be tightened as the nomination process continues, amid concerns over further escalation.
