A fresh political controversy has erupted in Tripura following recent remarks by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, where he strongly asserted that this is not a monarchy, this is a democracy, while cautioning against what he termed as 'excesses'. The statement, delivered at a public programme in Agartala just four days ago, was widely perceived as being directed at TIPRA Motha.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the era of monarchy is over and urged political actors to remain cautious, reinforcing democracy as the guiding principle of governance. However, his comments have now sparked intense political debate and speculation across the state.

Amid these developments, social media commentators and political observers have raised questions about a possible emerging understanding between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and TIPRA Motha ahead of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections. Discussions online suggest that a new political equation may be taking shape, potentially ending months of uncertainty.

Adding fuel to the political fire, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman made strong remarks questioning the BJP’s strategy and the Chief Minister’s statements. Referring to TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma as a 'king', he remarked that his directives will have to be followed.

Roy Barman questioned why the BJP, which earlier indicated it would contest all 28 seats in the ADC elections, has now reportedly decided to contest only 10 seats. He asked whether this shift reflects political compulsion or pressure from TIPRA Motha leadership.

He further challenged the Chief Minister’s earlier claim that TIPRA Motha had no ground support, pointing out that current developments suggest otherwise. According to him, public perception now indicates that the BJP may be losing its footing in the hill areas, leading to a reduced number of contested seats.

The Congress leader also questioned the apparent contradiction between the Chief Minister’s strong public rhetoric and the reported political understanding with TIPRA Motha. He asked why such 'political drama' was played out on social media if an alliance was eventually inevitable.

Roy Barman asserted that many citizens are now seeking a clear statement from the government on whether the BJP can sustain its political existence in Tripura without aligning with TIPRA Motha. He urged the Chief Minister to clarify the party’s position transparently.

The developments have triggered widespread reactions across political circles and among the public. While the ruling BJP has not officially confirmed any alliance framework, the emerging narrative suggests a significant shift in Tripura’s political landscape ahead of crucial local body elections.

Political analysts believe that the coming days will be critical in determining whether a formal alliance materializes or if the current developments remain part of strategic positioning.
