The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated veteran party worker Jahar Chakraborty as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the 56 Dharmanagar constituency, marking a significant moment of recognition for a long-time grassroots leader.

Jahar Chakraborty, widely known in Dharmanagar as a soft-spoken, benevolent, and socially committed individual, has been actively associated with the party for many years. Beyond politics, he has built a strong reputation for public service through his involvement in various social organizations. Notably, he has served as the Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, Dharmanagar branch, where he contributed extensively to humanitarian efforts.

His political journey, however, has not been without challenges. In the past, Chakraborty reportedly faced severe internal party conflicts, including instances of harassment and physical assault by members of his own party during factional disputes. Despite these setbacks, he remained committed to the BJP and continued his work at the grassroots level. His nomination is now being seen as a form of long-overdue recognition of his dedication and perseverance.

Following the announcement of his candidature, a large number of party workers and supporters gathered at his residence in Dharmanagar to congratulate him, reflecting strong local enthusiasm and support.

BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha extended their congratulations to Chakraborty. They expressed confidence that he would carry forward the unfinished vision of the late Bishwabandhu Sen and play a crucial role in accelerating development in Dharmanagar.

Chief Minister Dr. Saha stated that Chakraborty’s leadership would further strengthen the vision of “Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura,” emphasizing inclusive growth and development across the state.

The nomination has also sparked discussions among party workers, with some urging the leadership to continue recognizing and supporting long-standing grassroots members who have contributed to the party over the years.

As the by-election approaches, all eyes will now be on Dharmanagar, where Chakraborty’s candidacy is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape.
