The question hour in the assembly session today slightly hotted up over ‘unparliamentary remarks’ made by BJP MLA from Boxanagar Tofazzel Hossain on the former chief minister Manik Sarkar yesterday. At the beginning of the question hour after the election of the speaker the leader of the opposition JIten Chowdhury stood up and appealed to the new speaker to order expunging of untrue and ‘unparliamentary’ remarks made Tofazzel Hossain against former chief minister Manik Sarkar yesterday , charging him falsely with embezzlement of Rs 14 crores and other illegal acts which are false and baseless. Jiten in a show of high civility and fairness said that Tofazzel Hossain might have been swayed by emotion while making these false charges in a highly unparliamentary manner without actually intending to do so.

At this stage the minister for parliamentary affairs, Ratan Lal Nath stood up and said that the speaker has just been elected today and he will listen to the taped version of Tofazzel Hossain’s speech to ascertain what exactly he had said and then take a decision on the demanded expungement. Apart from this, Nath also said that the chief minister Dr Manik Saha will also make a statement in the house on March 23 on the allegations of river space and illegal construction made by Tofazzel Hossain in Boxangar after receiving detailed report at the administrative level.

Meanwhile sources from Boxanagar said that Tofazzel Hossain had actually encroached on the bed of a small rivulet flowing through Boxanagar area and illegally constructed a building . The matter was investigated by a DCM of Sonamura and he filed a detailed report to the SDM (Sonamura) on the illegal acts committed by Tofazzel but the SDM (Sonamura) has been sitting on the report without taking any action . It has become a serious issue as the DCM’s report pointed out that the illegal encroachment of the river bed and construction made on it will cause flooding in the area. Now the chief minister will ask for a detailed report on the issue from the administrative level and then make a statement on the matter in the assembly on March 23.
