Rampada Jamatya unanimously selected as new speaker of Tripura Assembly

Senior BJP tribal leader and two-time party MLA, veteran Rampada Jamaty was today unanimously selected as the new speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly in place of late speaker Bishwabandhu Sen who breathed his last in December last year . The deputy speaker Ram Prasad Paul who was officiating as speaker of the assembly had earlier requested his party leadership not to consider or nominate him for the speaker’s post.
At the beginning of the day’s session today the chief minister Dr Manik Saha, minister for forest and ‘Tipra Motha’ leader Animesh Debbarma and minister for co-operation and IPFT leader Shukla Charan Noatia jointly proposed the name of Ram Pada Jamatya as the new speaker of the assembly. The motion of proposal was also supported by the leader of the opposition Jiten Chowdhury and there was no counter proposal from the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) that has just three MLAs in the sixty-member house. The motion was passed unanimously .
After the formal selection process the chief minister Dr Manik Saha, leader of the opposition Jiten Chowdhury, IPFT leader Shukla Charan Noatia, ‘Tipra Motha’ leader Ranjit Debbarma and veteran Congress MLA Birajit Sinha and deputy speaker Ram Prasad Paul escorted Ram Pada Jamatya to the august chair of the speaker. All the senior leaders of legislative parties including the chief minister Dr Manik Saha and leader of the opposition Jiten Chowdhury extended their congratulations to the new speaker Ram Pada Jamayta , promising to co-operate with him in every possible manner and expressing the hope that he will steer the business of the house in a fair , impartial and dignified manner. For his part Ram Pada Jamatya also in a brief speech from the high pedestal promised to uphold the dignity of the assembly as well as to maintain decorum an d dignity of the house by conducting business in a fair and impartial manner.
