Man arrested for alleged rape in Tripura’s Unakoti district

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on charges of allegedly raping a woman in Tripura’s Unakoti district, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Pradip Debbarma, was apprehended from a relative’s residence near Fatikroy hospital under Fatikroy police station limits after the survivor lodged a complaint.

Officer-in-Charge of Fatikroy police station Sahadeb Das said the woman filed a written complaint on Sunday alleging sexual assault, following which a case was registered and a search operation was launched.

“The accused was arrested on Monday morning from a house near Fatikroy Hospital crossing and has been produced before a competent court,” Das said, adding that further investigation is in progress.

Police said the accused is a resident of the Demdum area under Fatikroy police station jurisdiction.
