TTAADC Polls on April 13, Counting on April 17: SEC Manoj Kumar Announces Schedule, DGP Assures Full Security

The State Election Commissioner for District Council Elections, retired IAS officer Manoj Kumar, on Tuesday afternoon announced the schedule for the General Election to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) at a press conference held at the State Secretariat. The press conference was also attended by Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar and Director of Tribal Welfare Subasish Das, highlighting the importance of coordinated administrative and security arrangements for the upcoming elections.

Addressing the media, the State Election Commissioner informed that polling for the TTAADC elections will be held on April 13, 2026, while the counting of votes will take place on April 17, 2026. He stated that the tenure of the existing District Council is set to expire on April 18, 2026, and the Commission has already completed almost all necessary preparations to ensure timely formation of the new Council.

The election will be conducted across 28 District Council constituencies, of which 25 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and three seats are unreserved. As per the final electoral rolls published on March 13, 2026, the total number of electors in the TTAADC stands at 9,62,697, including 4,82,025 male voters, 4,80,666 female voters and six voters from the third gender category.

Highlighting the administrative preparedness, the Commission has appointed senior officers as Election Observers and deployed 310 officers as Sector Magistrates to supervise the election process at the ground level. In terms of polling arrangements, a total of 1,257 polling stations will be set up across the eight districts of the state, and voting will be conducted through Electronic Voting Machines between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, who was present at the press conference, assured that the police department has made comprehensive security arrangements for the elections and will ensure a peaceful, free and fair polling process across all areas under the TTAADC. He emphasized that 11000 security personnel of various forces will be deployed and all preventive measures will be taken well in advance to maintain law and order.

The Commission further informed that the election process will begin with the issuance of notification on March 18, followed by the last date for filing nominations on March 25. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 26, while March 28 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal of candidature. If necessary, re-polling will be conducted on April 16, and the entire election process will be completed by April 18, 2026.

With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect in the TTAADC areas. The Commission has called upon all political parties, candidates, government officials and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the code to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

The Election Commission also acknowledged the crucial role of the media and sought their cooperation in disseminating accurate information and supporting the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
