The Governor of Tripura, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, today inaugurated a two-day national seminar on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Shatabarshiki Bhawan of Tripura University. Titled “NEP 2020: Policy into Practice to Create a Knowledge Economy,” the seminar aims to bridge the gap between policy formulation and its implementation in higher education.

The event has brought together eminent educationists, policymakers, and scholars from across the country to deliberate on contemporary challenges and opportunities in the academic sector. Among the distinguished dignitaries present was Prof. Shashikala Wanjari, Vice-Chancellor of National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi, whose insights are expected to enrich discussions on educational planning and governance. Prof. Shyamal Das, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) of Tripura University, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing institutional development and academic excellence.

The seminar is being conducted under the leadership of a dedicated academic team, including Prof. Veera Gupta as Chief Adviser, Dr. P. Shankar as Seminar Director, Dr. Sanjib Kumar Majhi as Convener, and Prof. Indraneel Bhowmik as Chairman. The organising committee, comprising senior academicians such as Prof. Jahar Debbarma, Prof. Tinku De Gope, and others, reflects a collaborative effort to ensure meaningful engagement.

Focusing on the transformation of higher education, the seminar seeks to explore key themes such as governance, quality assurance, research development, and institutional capacity building. Special emphasis is being placed on translating the provisions of NEP 2020 into student-centric outcomes, particularly in the context of emerging economic demands.

For students, especially in the North-East region, the seminar offers significant opportunities. It highlights the importance of skill-based education, interdisciplinary learning, and enhanced research exposure, which are critical for improving employability and innovation. Participants are also engaging in discussions on equitable access to quality education, addressing challenges such as infrastructure gaps and limited academic resources.

The initiative is expected to provide a platform for dialogue between stakeholders, allowing students, researchers, and educators to exchange ideas and contribute to policy discourse. Experts believe that such academic engagements are essential for building a knowledge-driven economy and strengthening the region’s educational ecosystem.

Overall, the seminar marks an important step toward aligning higher education in Tripura with national priorities. By fostering collaboration and encouraging innovative approaches, it is likely to benefit both students and faculty, paving the way for a more inclusive and dynamic academic environment in the state.
