Fresh political speculation has emerged in Tripura after 11 MLAs out of 13 MLAs of the Tipra Motha Party remained absent from a crucial ruling alliance legislative party meeting held ahead of the upcoming Assembly session yesterday evening.
According to sources, in the latest meeting convened at the official residence of Chief Minister Manik Saha, only two MLAs from Tipra Motha, state minister Animesh Debbarma and MLA Chitta Debbarma were present. No other MLA from the regional party reportedly attended the meeting.
Traditionally, before every Assembly session, a meeting of the ruling alliance’s legislative party is held at the Chief Minister’s residence. MLAs of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party along with legislators from alliance partners usually participate in the meeting to discuss legislative strategy and coordination for the upcoming session.
However, the absence of the remaining 11 Tipra Motha MLAs from the latest meeting has drawn significant attention in political circles. The development has triggered widespread speculation across social media platforms, with rumours circulating that some leaders of the regional party could be moving closer to the BJP ahead of the upcoming political developments in the state.
The presence of Animesh Debbarma, who is currently a minister in the BJP-led government, and Chitta Debbarma at the meeting despite the absence of other Tipra Motha legislators has further fuelled these discussions.
Meanwhile, government sources have not officially confirmed any political shift, and the leadership has urged people not to rely on unverified rumours circulating on social media.
Political observers believe that the situation could gain further significance in the context of the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), where the political alignment between the BJP and Tipra Motha remains a subject of intense debate.
As of now, no formal statement has been issued by the Tipra Motha leadership regarding the absence of its MLAs from the meeting. However, the unusual development has added a new dimension to the evolving political landscape of Tripura.
