In a bizarre incident the wife of a BJP leader and former ‘Mandal’ president had escaped from home , creating a stir but finally she was rescued by police yesterday from Agartala. Sources from Sonamura said that Seema Akhtar (35) , wife of former Sonamura B JP ‘Mandal’ president Abdul Zalil , residents of Urmai village under Sonamura police station, had been married for several years. The couple had been quite happy initially and had two children but Abdul Zalil’s extra-marital affair with a neighbouring house-wife led to deterioration in relation. This was followed by regular torture and physical abuse of Seema Akhtar and there was a longstanding dispute between the families of husband and wife. Unable to put up with the torture of her husband, specially after she had been falsely charged with theft of a gold packet kept in her in-laws house by a smuggler friend of her husband Seema disappeared from her house , leaving behind her two children. This caused a furore and her husband Abdul Zalil filed a missing diary with Sonamura police station. Since Zalil is close connected with the ruling party the police acted promptly finally after a search operation recovered Seema from a relative’s house at Agartala . Sources said that Seem is now safe and sound in her in-law’s house.

In a separate incident symptomatic of the deep moral degradation and debauchery a house-wife and mother of two Children in Kamalpur eloped with her much younger paramour , leaving behind her children and in-laws. Anupama Das (35),a resident of Halahali post office area , had been married to TSR jawan Sanjit Ranjan Das (37) seventeen years ago and the couple have two children aged sixteen and fourteen. But taking advantage of the long absence of her husband from home, Anupama took a private job in an insurance company and developed an illicit liaison with a youth Abhijeet Ghosh (29) and yesterday she eloped with her much younger paramour. Anupama’s husband Sanjit Ranjan Das said that he had come to know of the entire matter only after his wife had eloped and was concerned only over his children and their standing in society.
