In a move that is expected to add further pressure on household budgets and transportation costs, the prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) have been increased in Tripura. The revised rates were announced by Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) through an official notification issued on Sunday.

According to the company, the revised prices will come into effect from March 10, 2026. Officials stated that the revision has been necessitated due to rising gas procurement costs and other operational factors.

As per the revised structure, the CNG price in West Tripura district has been increased from Rs.80.53 per kg to Rs.82.00 per kg, while in Gomati district the price has been raised from Rs.85.33 per kg to Rs.86.80 per kg.

The PNG price for domestic consumers in West Tripura has also been increased from Rs.40.80 per unit to Rs.42.30 per unit. However, the domestic PNG price in Gomati district remains unchanged at Rs.46.54 per unit.

For commercial and industrial consumers, the PNG price in West Tripura has been raised from Rs.52.27 to Rs.53.27, while the PNG price in Gomati district remains unchanged at Rs.49.37. Meanwhile, the gas price supplied to industries at Bodhjungnagar Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) has also been kept unchanged at Rs.39.65.

The latest hike comes shortly after the recent increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder prices across the country, which has already raised concerns among middle-class and lower-income households about the rising cost of essential fuels. Transport operators and vehicle owners who depend on CNG are also likely to feel the impact of the fresh revision.

Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited is a joint venture of GAIL (India) Limited, the Government of Tripura, and the Government of Assam, and supplies natural gas in the form of CNG and PNG to several districts of the state.

The latest revision follows multiple price hikes in 2025, according to official notifications issued by Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited. These increases were largely attributed to higher gas procurement costs and the rise in the Tripura Road Development Cess.

Industry observers note that taxes and cess on natural gas, including the Road Development Cess, now account for a significant portion of the retail price, contributing to the steady rise in fuel costs.

The price increases have a wide-ranging impact, affecting over 40,000 domestic PNG consumers along with numerous commercial establishments, industrial units, and transport operators who depend on CNG across Tripura.

With the latest revision set to take effect from March 10, concerns are being raised about the cascading impact on transportation fares, industrial costs, and household expenditure across the state as fuel prices continue to rise.
