MMD College, Sabroom celebrates International Women's Day

The Women’s Cell of Michael Madhusudan Dutta (MMD) College, Sabroom celebrated today the International Women’s Day with due respect and dignity in the smart classroom of the college . The event was attended by College Women's Cell Convener, Smt. Sangita Rangkhawal , Smt. Supriya Mog, Dr. Kamal Acharya, Sajal Nath, joint- secretary, college Alumni Association along with other faculty members and students. The programme was presided over by Dr. Anupam Guha, Principal of MMD College.

The theme for this year’s International Women's Day 2026 is "Give to Gain". The main objectives of this day are to establish gender equality, safeguard women's rights, celebrate their social, economic, and political achievements, and eliminate discrimination to ensure women's empowerment. The day is observed worldwide to raise awareness against violence and oppression of women and to promote equal rights in society. Professor Dr. Acharya stated that women across the globe are making remarkable contributions to societal development, economics, politics, and social reforms. In our country, women have played leading roles in independence movements, modern technology, education, and the military. The focus of the discussion was on building a better and prosperous society by increasing women's education, health, safety, and economic independence.

Dr. Anupam Guha mentioned that women contribute approximately 18% to India's current GDP, which indicates their increasing participation in the workforce. He urged everyone present to show respect and reverence for women in all walks of life.

The program commenced with a musical performance by College’s Guest Lecturer Rimi Chakraborty. Welcome and vote of thanks were delivered by Professors Sangita Rangkhawal and Supriya Mog. The tribal students' traditional attire was a notable highlight of the event. The program concluded with a collective pledge, emphasizing the commitment to gender equality and women's rights.
