President CP Radhakrishnan on Saturday interacted with members of Women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at the International Trade & Fair Centre, praising their significant role in grassroots development and women’s empowerment. The interaction took place on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Addressing a gathering of SHG members and officials, the Vice President said that India has witnessed a remarkable transformation over the past decade, moving from the traditional concept of women development to the more progressive idea of women-led development. He emphasized that women are now playing a decisive role in shaping the country’s economic and social progress.

Highlighting the growing participation of women in education, entrepreneurship and self-reliance initiatives, the Vice President noted that the success of Self-Help Groups has become a powerful example of grassroots empowerment. He expressed confidence that many women who have already achieved the status of “Lakhpati Didis” would soon emerge as “Crorepati Didis,” further strengthening India’s economy and contributing to inclusive growth.

During his visit, Shri Radhakrishnan also toured several stalls set up by Self-Help Groups at the International Trade & Fair Centre. He was briefed about a wide range of locally produced items displayed by SHGs representing different districts of Tripura, including handicrafts, food products, and traditional goods. The Vice President appreciated the quality and diversity of the products and encouraged the women entrepreneurs to expand their market reach.

The programme was attended by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, along with other dignitaries, officials and members of Self-Help Groups. The event highlighted the growing contribution of women’s collectives in boosting local economies and promoting self-reliance in Tripura.
