The Tripura government has initiated a process to acquire land in the Krishnanagar area of Agartala, close to the official residence of the Chief Minister as well as the nearby ministers’ and officers’ residential quarters. The move may lead to the eviction of four families living in the No. 4 Officers Quarter Lane in the locality.

According to a notification issued by the Revenue Department of the Government of Tripura, land measuring 0.1392 acres under Agartala Sheet No. 7/P, Mouja Agartala West in Sadar Sub-Division of West Tripura district has been proposed for acquisition. The land has been identified for development work in the vicinity of the official residence of the Chief Minister and the residences of other ministers and visiting dignitaries. The project will be implemented by the Home Department of the Government of Tripura.

As per the Schedule of Land attached with the notification, the land belongs to four families residing in the No. 4 Officers’ Quarter Lane of Krishnanagar. The affected families include Chuni Majumder and Mahabuba Majumder, Mahabur Rahaman and Lovely Majumder, Siddiqur Rahaman and Beauty Majumder, and Panna Majumder and Keya Majumder. Government records show that the land falls under Khatian Nos. 2806, 2809, 2812 and 2813 and includes R.S. Plot Nos. 1383/4240, 1383/4241, 1383/4245 and 1383/4246, all classified as Bastu (Nal) land.

Officials said the acquisition process has been initiated under the land acquisition rules and a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) will be conducted before any final decision is taken. A team comprising representatives from different departments and institutions has already been formed to carry out the survey, consultation and assessment of the proposed acquisition.

The government has scheduled a public hearing on March 16, 2026 at 11:30 AM at the Conference Hall of the District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura in Agartala. Landowners and other concerned persons have been asked to attend the hearing and submit their claims, objections or suggestions regarding the proposed acquisition.

The notification has raised concern among the four families residing in the area as the acquisition process may eventually lead to their displacement if the project moves forward.

The notification was issued by order of the Governor and digitally signed by Chandra Krishna Malsom, Joint Secretary to the Government of Tripura, Revenue Department, on February 19, 2026.
