Vice President CP Radhakrishnan Attends Cultural Evening at Lok Bhavan, To Join Tripura University Convocation and Interact with Lakhpati Didis Today

The Vice President of India, CP Radhakrishnan, attended a colourful cultural evening hosted by the Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, at Lok Bhavan in Agartala on Saturday, highlighting the rich cultural traditions of Tripura and India.

During the programme, the Vice President appreciated the soulful musical presentation based on the Ramayan and the vibrant traditional dance performances that showcased the cultural diversity and timeless heritage of Tripura and Bharat. The performances reflected the spiritual depth, artistic excellence and traditional values deeply rooted in the region.

Among those present at the programme were Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, along with several other dignitaries and senior officials.

Earlier in the day, Vice President Radhakrishnan arrived in Agartala as part of his visit to the northeastern region. He was accorded a warm welcome at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Chief Minister Manik Saha. Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha and Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar were also present to receive him.

Following his arrival, the Vice President was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Lok Bhavan.

The cultural programme held in the evening was attended by Chief Minister Manik Saha, who described the event as a memorable evening celebrating the state’s heritage, traditions, culture and spirituality. However, it was observed that nearly half of the state Cabinet ministers were absent from the programme. Despite the absence of several ministers, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury attended the event.

Among the ministers present were Pranajit Singha Roy, Tinku Roy, Bikash Debbarma and Shukla Charan Noatia. In-charge Speaker Ram Prasad Paul was also present at the programme.

As part of his schedule in Tripura on Sunday, the Vice President will attend the convocation ceremony of Tripura University as the Chief Guest.

He is also scheduled to visit the Hapania International Fair Ground, where the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission will organise a special interaction programme with “Lakhpati Didis”, members of Self-Help Groups from different districts of the state.

During the interaction, the Vice President is expected to engage with women entrepreneurs and observe various products displayed by Self-Help Group members. He is likely to discuss their initiatives, production processes, marketing opportunities and their journey towards financial empowerment and rural entrepreneurship.

According to the official itinerary, the Vice President will also visit the revered Tripura Sundari Temple in the morning to offer prayers before attending the university convocation.

Earlier on Friday, the Vice President attended the 8th convocation ceremony of Nagaland University at its Lumami campus as the Chief Guest. This visit marks his first official tour to the Northeast after assuming office as the Vice President of India.
