The leader of the opposition in the state assembly and CPI (M) state secretary Jiten Chowdhury reacted in a guarded manner to the 9-day duration of the upcoming budget session of the state assembly commencing from March 13. Speaking to media persons after attending the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the assembly, he said ‘it is all right , we will not oppose everything for the sake of opposition but shall highlight the acts of omission of the state government and demand course correction’.

Jiten said that the incumbent BJP government has not fulfilled most of its commitments given before the assembly elections of 2018 and 2023 and these issues will be raised. “The entire state is reeling under countless problems ; we know that the financial power of the state is limited but whatever funds the state receives is not being utilised; the entire education system is on the verge of collapse due lack of teachers , there are thousands of vacancies in the entire administration but recruitment is very much limited” said Jiten.

He also highlighted the issue of corruption in many governmental works worsened by extremely dangerous law and order situation which, he asserted, will be highlighted in the assembly session by the opposition. Jiten also rued the erosion of democratic values in the state reflected in deliberate obstructions created in and attacks on opposition parties whenever they try to organise a political programme. Shortly after speaking to media persons Jiten held a meeting with the Congress MLA Birajit Sinha who is also a member of the BAC and discussed with him a joint strategy for the opposition in the upcoming session.
