Tension has reportedly gripped the Bagma area under Udaipur following an alleged violent attack on construction workers engaged in renovation work at the old building of the Bagma Agriculture Sector Office.

According to local sources, several construction workers, some of them identified as Ranjana Bibi, Taslima Begum, and Pinto Sarkar

were severely assaulted while carrying out repair work at the agriculture office building. The workers had reportedly been engaged in the renovation project under the instructions of a contractor assigned to the work.

Initial reports suggest that a group of individuals from the area allegedly attacked the workers while attempting to collect illegal “tola” (extortion money) from the contractor involved in the project. The attackers have been identified locally as Bapon Ghosh, Sentu Debnath, and Pranab Saha, who were reportedly accompanied by others and allegedly acted under the leadership of a local Panchayat Pradhan.

Local residents expressed shock over the incident, describing the assault on the workers as brutal and unacceptable. The attack has triggered widespread criticism in the area, with many condemning the alleged extortion attempt and the violence against labourers.

Sources also claimed that the local MLA, who was reportedly present in connection with the dispute over the alleged collection of extortion money, was also involved in a confrontation during the incident. It is alleged that the MLA later took shelter at the police station and subsequently filed a case regarding the matter.

However, as of last night, no arrests had been reported in connection with the incident. The situation in the area remains tense, and residents are demanding strict action against those responsible for the alleged assault.

Police have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and further investigation is expected.
