With the ADC election tentatively scheduled to come off in April , the war of words between the BJP and its coalition partner in state government, the ‘Tipra Motha’ seems to be hotting up. Yesterday the chief minister Dr Manik Saha addressed a well-attended rally at Khwmlung , headquarter of ADC without any disruption to enthuse party workers and supporters for a strong fight in the election and victory. “The BJP this time is going to capture the ADC with spontaneous support of the people ; the indications are already clear as indigenous people are coming out spontaneously with support to the BJP; this time we will win majority and ensure real development of the tribal people as in the rest of the state” asserted the chief minister. He also took part in a road-show with the minister for food and tourism Sushanta Chowdhury on his side.
But the Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore fired a salvo at the state government in a video message asking why the state government is not holding election to the 587 Village Committees, due since 2021, despite the Supreme Court order passed in this regard. “The state government has not yet released money for the ADC and, as a result, the employees have not yet received their salaries this month; apart from this, the non-notification of schedule for the Village Committee election despite a Supreme Court order passed in this regard is also amazing” said Pradyot. He held non-holding of election to the Village Committees responsible for economic woes of the ‘Tiprasa’ people.
But sources in the government said that the ADC dispensation is plagued by gross financial mismanagement. “We have authentic reports of large amounts of funds being misused and siphoned off ; there is no audit of accounts ; the school education system under the ADC is on the verge of collapse and many schools have already closed down worsened by sharp rise in drop-out rates” alleged sources . They however said that ADC was being given its due funds in time.
