In a first of its kind initiative in Tripura, Bishalgarh MLA Sushanta Deb publicly presented a detailed three-year development report card outlining various infrastructure, healthcare and social initiatives implemented in the constituency. However, observers noted that the presentation remained silent on the growing concerns over drug trafficking and alleged gangster activities in the constituency.
The report was presented during a public programme held at Jangaliya Ground, where Deb highlighted what he described as significant progress in Bishalgarh since 2023 through coordinated efforts of the state and central governments.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA credited Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha for extending consistent support for developmental works and acknowledged the role of local representatives, administrative officials and party workers in accelerating the pace of development across the constituency.
According to the report, several infrastructure projects have been undertaken to improve connectivity and urban facilities in Bishalgarh and surrounding areas. These include the construction and upgrading of modern roads linking Bishalgarh with Golaghati, Boxanagar and Lakshmibil, significantly improving transportation and mobility for local residents.
Urban development works such as the construction of modern drainage systems, CC roads, public toilets and the beautification of the Bishalgarh motor stand area were also highlighted as important steps toward improving civic amenities and urban management.
Deb further mentioned the establishment of Asia’s second artificial limb manufacturing unit at Lakshmibil, which is expected to provide support for differently-abled persons while also generating employment opportunities in the region.
The MLA also spoke about initiatives aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting tourism in the constituency. Among the projects highlighted were the development of an indoor sports complex, a swimming pool and the construction of a grand temple dedicated to Dakshineswari Maa.
He stated that these projects are expected to encourage youth participation in sports while also attracting visitors and boosting the local economy through tourism and cultural activities.
Healthcare development has also been prioritised, Deb said, announcing that a new 50-bed block will be constructed at Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital to expand medical facilities for residents of Bishalgarh and neighbouring areas.
The proposed expansion is expected to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure and improve access to treatment for patients across the sub-division.
Highlighting community engagement initiatives, Deb said that several programmes have been organised to involve young people in constructive activities. These include sports tournaments, monthly blood donation camps and cultural programmes such as Rabindra Jayanti celebrations organised in natural surroundings.
He also noted that during natural calamities such as floods, relief operations and financial assistance for affected traders were coordinated with the support of the government and local administration.
The event was attended by several local leaders and public representatives, including Bishalgarh Municipal Council Chairman Anjan Purkayastha and Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Atasi Das, along with other community representatives and residents.
While presenting the report card, Deb described the initiative as a step toward greater transparency and accountability in governance. However, the absence of any reference to issues such as drug trafficking and criminal gang activities in parts of the constituency drew attention among some observers and residents.
The development report, nevertheless, outlined the MLA’s vision of transforming Bishalgarh through infrastructure expansion, improved healthcare, youth engagement and enhanced civic amenities in the coming years.
